Guide Training

Think you have what it takes to work with the best? Are you ready for a summer of working outside within the elements? As much as hard work is a part of working for TWT, so is fun and excitement. We are all about having a good time and taking advantage of the beautiful natural surroundings Tahoe has to offer. Join the Tahoe Whitewater Tours team and experience a summer like no other. It all starts with our Guide School where you will be trained in all the necessities of being a whitewater guide. You will be taught skills like reading and understanding hydraulics and river dynamics, emergency procedures, river rescue techniques, ropes, rafting terminology, outdoor education, and mainly how to have fun on the river with an emphasis on safety. Guide School starts in early May and is a two week course. There is a day of classroom instruction and then it's on to the whitewater. You'll spend the rest of your time in guide school camping and rafting out on the five or six stretches of river we use for training. Guide School tuition covers all transportation, rafting, and camping fees. Your only other expense will be food. Typically the students will organize group meals to help keep this cost to a minimum.

Every year we have need for a couple new guides to join our staff and it is the best performers from the Tahoe Whitewater Tours guide school that are given that opportunity.
