Tahoe Whitewater Tours

All Tahoe Whitewater adventures begin at the Tahoe Whitewater Boathouse just outside of Tahoe City at the bottom of Alpine Meadows Rd., where we will start a scenic drive downstream to begin your adventure.

Tahoe Whitewater Tours exclusively uses smaller specialized boats that can accommodate up to 6 guests to provide a more fun and personal adventure for your friends and family.

The Tahoe area offers miles of class I-IV rapids including the famous 'Boca Run'. It is an exciting, wet ride perfect for the entire family. We also offer a more difficult run on the Middle Fork of the American for the more adventurous guests, which includes 'Tunnel Chute' and 'Texas Chain saw Mama'.

All Tahoe Whitewater guides have extensive whitewater experience, and take our guest's safety personally. All Tahoe Whitewater guides are graduates of our intensive guide school and are certified in First Aid and CPR. They also receive extensive training in river rescue techniques and water-related emergencies.

Tahoe Whitewater Tours will provide all necessary equipment including life jackets, wet suits, dry/rain gear, helmet, etc. We ask that all clients dress in layers of synthetic clothing (fleece, polartec, poly-pro, etc), avoiding cotton if at all possible. You should wear your own athletic shoes or secure river sandals. You will get wet.

All adventures are offered daily from Mid May until late September, weather depending. Please feel free to call us to receive an updated weather report and advice on proper clothing. Guests may experience unpredictable weather in Late May and early June. Not to worry...the combination of high water and proper equipment guarantees a great adventure.

Full-Day Adventure

Tahoe Whitewater full day trips take place on several of the local regions rivers.

The American River is California's classic Gold Country River. Its three forks rise in the High Sierra just west of Lake Tahoe and the Pacific Crest and flow west out of the mountains to merge with the Sacramento River in Sacramento. It's on the South Fork of the American River that James Marshall discovered gold in 1848 and started the 49ers California Gold Rush, which settled the California Territory during turbulent times. The American River is also the birthplace of whitewater boating in California. It's one of the most popular white water rivers in America.

The whitewater section between Placerville (starting at Chili Bar) and ending at Salmon Falls (Folsom Reservoir) is 21 miles of the most popular river found in the West. Depending on seasonal fluctuations and power releases, the water flows are normally at 1000 to 8000 cubic feet per second.

SOUTH FORK - CLASS III. We run two sections of the South Fork.

THE CHILI BAR RUN is a full day run on the upper part of the river, which is best accessed from the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. We give a full-day tour with a lunch provided at the Marshall gold discovery site. Such rapids as the "Meat Grinder", "Triple Threat" and "Troublemaker" make this a memorable run.
